The question that I am often asked in supervisions is how to work with clients when they do not have access to their bodies or when access to sensation is compromised.
Most Somatic Experiencing® students and even practitioners think it is their job to get their clients back into their body. It is not. When clients cannot feel their body, it is because their body is holding too much distress and disorganization.
There are four general patterns for clients who experience difficulty in accessing sensation:
· Clients who cannot feel their body at all
· Clients who experience their body primarily with dread (hypochondria)
· Clients who experience their body primarily as painful
· Clients for whom any positive experience is rapidly
overcoupled with distress
This seminar will address how to work with each one of these four patterns and with the high levels of activation that drive these patterns.
