On the path of meditation we don't only experience moments of spaciousness, silence and presence, but we also encounter resistance, restlessness and thoughts. When meditators meet such hurdles either they give up or they seek help and support.
In meditation counselling we are interested in what happens during meditation. We will explore the various processes that come into play through meditation. The recognition of the tricks and pitfalls of the mind opens a space for presence and acceptance and supports the meditator in finding the way back to witnessing. This is not achieved through repressing thoughts or feelings, but rather by inviting acceptance of things as they are and coming back to the here and now.
Clear and loving communication is needed for this and our developed awareness means that we can also speak the same language as the other and are thus well able to advise them. We also need to be aware of our own ideas and concepts about meditation so
that we don't just simply transfer them to the other in the course of counselling and communicating with them.
A fundamental understanding of interpersonal communication
and some simple tools help to avoid misunderstandings and to support the meditator both emotionally and with regard what happens for them in meditation.
